MINISTER ELENA UDREA ON VISIT TO BUDAPEST
During her official visit to Budapest, Elena Udrea, Minister of Regional Development and Tourism, met with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén.
Discussions focused on the good neighbourly relations between the two countries, reflected in particular by the fact that Romania and Hungary share the same perspective on the issues on the agenda of the two governments.
The officials estimated that we are at a stage where we must talk about pragmatism in the bilateral relations and about supporting joint projects at EU level, by stepping up cooperation for accessing the European funds available under the Hungary-Romania Cross-Border Cooperation Programme, in particular for developing road infrastructure. As regards the Danube Strategy, a special emphasis will be placed on improving economic relations between the two countries, by creating a Danubian transport corridor between Bucharest and Budapest and by facilitating Hungary`s access to the Black Sea. Another level of economic cooperation is aimed at achieving a high speed railroad corridor from Paris to Constanta and at interconnecting gas and electricity networks. Moreover, the two governments will develop better cooperation on a political level, within the EPP.
Tomorrow, 20 July, Elena Udrea Minister will meet with the President Designate of the Republic of Hungary, Pál Schmitt, the Minister of National Development, Tamás Fellegi, the Minister of National Economy, György Matolcsy, and a number of members of the Parliament of the Republic of Hungary.
